My comfort zone involves a blanket, a cup of tea, and a book. Fortunately for me, this is the kind of environment I need in order to recharge. I can spend time this way, without guilt, because I know that I’m giving myself what I need. But because its so enjoyable, I often spend more time this way than I should.
If I always stayed in my comfort zone I’d never grow as a person. In order to motivate myself to achieve my goals, I have to give myself challenges. I thought I’d share a few of these challenges with you.
1. I’m challenging myself to push my body to its limits. I want to get stronger and grow in confidence. The endorphins are just a bonus 🙂 I’m going to start training for a Spartan race this summer. I’m focusing on building strength. I’m going to start running again. I’ll even throw in some crossfit workouts too, something I never thought I’d do again.
2. I’m challenging myself to eat better. To cut out all processed foods and refined sugars. To make sure I’m getting the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats. To consume enough calories not only for maintenance, but for building muscle. And I need to drink more water. I’m going to carry a water bottle around with me, so drinking water will be easier to remember.
3. I’m challenging myself to find the balance between social activity and alone time. To decide how many engagements a week/month I am going to agree to, and to say no to everything else. To go out with friends and enjoy it to the full. And to give myself the time I need to recuperate without feeling guilty.
4. I’m challenging myself to spend more time outside. I love being in nature, it gives me such peace and contentment. I went on a long walk this past Sunday through a beautiful ravine. I spent the whole time absorbed in the beauty around me, the smells of the leaves and the gorgeous colours of the trees. I took some pictures and will likely post them up soon.
5. I’m challenging myself to embrace minimalism. To go through the items in my home and get rid of the things I haven’t used for a long time, or the things that I don’t really like. I’ve already done this with my closet and its given me so much peace of mind. Purging things isn’t an easy task, but its so satisfying, and I really want to get rid of the clutter.
6. I’m challenging myself to post more often on my blog. I still have a lot of summer pictures I want to share, and some ones from autumn as well. There’s a lot of topics I’d like to write about. I’d like to post something (other than quotes) twice a week, starting next month.
7. I’m challenging myself to do things I don’t enjoy. Things like squats and burpees. Like eating things that don’t necessarily taste good but are good for me. To go up to strangers at an event and introduce myself. To finally do things I’ve always wanted to do, but never had the courage. To sometimes say yes to things that intimidate me.
So there are some my challenges. I’m going to follow up at the end of each month, assess my progress, and adjust if necessary.
What are some of your goals/challenges?

Bravo, Ally! But what is a burpee? I thought that was a seed company. 🙂

Its a strange combination of standing to squatting to push up to squatting to jumping. Its not an exercise that I enjoy, but its so effective haha 🙂

Sounds effective … and hard on the knees. Be careful. 🙂

Will do 🙂

I love your challenges! I’m also trying to better manage my socialising and alone time, as well as becoming more focussed on following a minimalist lifestyle, so hopefully we can motivate each other!
My main challenge for myself is to prioritise my writing. It’s the most important thing to me and yet it’s what will put off and try to avoid the most … typical!

Thank you! Hopefully we can inspire each other to keep moving forward, growing, and improving! You have a lovely way with words and your posts are always enjoyable to read. Not only for the content, but also through the way you express yourself and the words you choose to use 🙂

Haha, burpees are great 😉 I am not doing them but I rather prefer squats and push-ups 🙂
Ally, wonderful aims you have – great! Do not forget to stay relaxed if you cannot fulfil any of the points somehow on a certain time frame.
HSPs tend to be perfectionist, also if they have some points to reach… So self-forgiveness is an important point as well.
So, Ally – take care and fingers crossed for all your self-care and get-out-of-my-comfort-zone activities.
All the best!!!

Thank you for the reminder to stay relaxed and to be self forgiving if all doesn’t go as planned. That’s something I definitely need to remember 🙂

Oh yes, me either – and I have to remind me every day 🙂 But it is getting better and better…
Enjoy your week,

Nice challenges. I would advise you to be more specific. How many workouts, walks, blog posts etc. As the saying goes – what gets measured gets managed. This way you can keep yourself more accountable. Imagine if the secret to completing these challenges would only lie behind the limitations you set for yourself. I intend to go to a spartan race myself. Good luck on yours!

That’s definitely a great idea. I’m creating a schedule for my workouts as we speak, so I can keep track of everything I’m planning on doing. Having specific, measurable goals are awesome, and it helps me feel as if I’m actually achieving things. Hope your spartan race goes well for you too!

I love your comfort zone, I could stay there forever! 🙂 The challenges are good too. Thanks for the reminder to drink water, I’m so bad at that…
I’m currently trying to get myself back into a routine. I had one going for a while and I was so productive! Then it seemed like one thing happened after another and I got out of the loop. Hopefully I’ll be doing more writing with this routine/schedule too. I look forward to reading more of your posts, they’re always a pleasure! 🙂

Thank you! Its difficult to start and maintain a routine but so easy to slip out of it. Good luck on drinking more water! Its something I know is good for me, but I still have trouble remembering haha. I’ll have to post sticky notes everywhere to remind me 🙂

That’s a good idea! I just might have to steal that one from you. You’d think that for something our bodies need it would be easier to remember, but it’s just so difficult sometimes! Good luck on your challenges! 🙂

Thanks! I got the sticky note idea from a friend of mine. He also writes reminders on his mirror using a whiteboard marker. Such a good idea haha.

That is a good idea! I’d only worry about having people over and wondering what they’d think about it… Plus I’d rather keep some things to myself… Haha, It’s definitely worth considering though!

You make a good point. Maybe I’ll just keep them in the bedroom/bathroom haha.
