Finally slowing down

adult-2178904_1920I hope everyone had a great long weekend! This whole summer feels like a blur. Events and activities filled nearly every weekend. And while I squeezed in as much quiet time as I could, I was still fighting burnout for months. I’ve only now just caught my breath and started to take things easier.

There’s nothing planned this weekend and I already feel myself relaxing. I’m still enjoying summery weather, although the cool temperatures at night already feel like autumn. I have a few post ideas for the next few weeks that I’m excited to share. I’ve missed connecting with you all. Hope you have a great evening!

Learning to slow down

herbal-2562218_1920Life seems to be moving at an impossibly fast pace. First I was catching up on sleep after almost a month in Asia. Then it was preparing for a weekend trip to see my family. Then a concert with friends. Then getting my place move-in ready for a new roomie. I was low on sleep and high on caffeine and adrenaline. Yet I still found it difficult to finish everything on my list.

Last week, it all caught up with me and my body decided it had enough. I caught the cold that was circulating the office. It didn’t hit me as hard as it had some, but it definitely forced me to slow down and take care of myself. There are a few things I do when I’m fighting an illness. I start going to bed early to give my body more time to rest. I stay hydrated at home and work with lots of water and herbal tea. I cut out all sugars except for a small amount of fruit. I still work out, but do lighter workouts instead of my preferred heavy lifting sessions. I also take lots of hot showers. Whether this helps or not, I have no idea, but I do enjoy them.

Getting sick was a good reminder to take care of myself. Far too often I push my own needs out of the way when I’m focusing on a task or problem. But then something else comes up and I continue to prioritize other things above my health (both physical and mental). But I’m on the mend and feeling a lot better. I’m looking forward to diving back into work, lifting, dance, and social activities. This time while keeping a close eye on how I’m feeling.

How’s your week going so far?
