4 reasons I love blogging

Reflective

Writing and maintaining a blog can be challenging. Some days inspiration strikes hard and there’s so much to write about. Other days, its hard to get motivated, or you just can’t think of the right topic. Too often I get distracted by the busyness of life and the blog gets forgotten. Its definitely a labour of love but I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far. Here are a few reasons I love blogging:

1. I’m an introvert.
I express myself best through writing and my writing is far more polished than my speaking. I can choose the perfect words to convey the exact meaning I’m trying to get across. I share more of myself online than in person. It may take years for me to share some really personal things with someone face-to-face. I’m far more comfortable writing about them on my blog. And connecting with people online isn’t as physically and mentally draining as in person. You get the personal connection without the crippling exhaustion.

2. Meeting awesome people.
Blogging is an amazing way to meet people from around the world. I’ve been able to connect with other introverts and HSPs which has been lovely. It really helps me realize that I’m not alone in my experiences. I’ve been so inspired by people who are going through difficult times. I’ve been encouraged by those who have gone through things I’m still dealing with. It reminds me that these things will pass. I love being able to share my thoughts with others and see what others are thinking about. And I can do so in the comfort of my own room or at work.

3. Its a cathartic experience.
When I experience something negative, discouraging, or frustrating, writing about it helps. It helps me process all the thoughts and emotions running through my mind. It also puts things into perspective. Its a non-destructive way of dealing with my negative emotions. I’ve gotten so much good advice from people who have gone through similar things. And seeing things from another’s perspective can be eye-opening and makes you consider other angles. And sometimes, just knowing someone is listening helps.

4. Its a creative outlet.
There’s something special about creating something that didn’t exist before. Writing is one way I can channel my need to be creative and my desire to make things. Writing is an amazing way to express myself. To share parts of me with the rest of the world. To talk about things that I love or experiences I’ve had.

Why do you love blogging?

I work at a vet’s office. I use to dress my kitties as punishment for spraying (they were territorial). A client sad to me – you can’t keep that to yourself you have to blog or do something. 2-3 years later I finally move my butt on it. I started it as a joke but ended up loving it. I wanted to have a separate site for our travel and pics but I’m so tech incompetent it’s combined. So many neat people, so much creative energy, I find a lot of bloggers are way more inspiring than my friends. Just a lovely experience and I get some great travel pointers. A lot of the travel bloggers have me thinking I need to start being more adventurous.

I agree, you can find so much inspiration from other blogs 🙂 I love being able to find things I’m passionate about. I love your post on the Garnier Opera House and the Phantom 🙂 That’s one of my favourite novels.

I hope you didn’t mind Ally, but I’ve reblogged this. 🙂 This is a really good and important bit of writing and I really identify with this being an introvert as well.
I definitely write better than I talk, even when with people who I really trust and value as friends; blogging is a very good way to communicate, especially as an introvert.
    Great post Ally 🙂

You’ve really nailed it. I am right there with you about sharing much more on line because I’ve written things on my blog that I have never told anyone in person. Writing just gives me the opportunity to really compose what I want to say. I focus mostly on my experiences with ballroom dancing and it has been amazing to connect to others who have many of the same issues I do. It is nice to know you aren’t the only one going through certain things. But reading blogs like yours has really helped me embrace and understand what it means to be an introvert and that we don’t all have to be the extroverted life of the party types.

Thank you, that means a lot to me. I’ve also learned so much from other’s blogs. Things that have changed my perspective and helped me see things from another angle. Its so encouraging to know that I’m not alone. Thank you for commenting 🙂

Once again our thought processes line up.

Writing is a huge cathartic outlet for me. I can always tell when I’m slacking off on writing because I begin to feel overwhelmed, almost heavy, with all of the things I’m holding on to or not processing internally. It’s like my mind gets bogged down, cluttered, and it stays that way until I take a blank sheet of paper as a dusting cloth and clean house.

Blogging specifically gives me a creative way to do it. Before I would write in Microsoft Word, and later on Google Drive, but there was just something missing. It was just a text document. There wasn’t anything pretty or creative about it. I just existed. Blogging gives me a way to ‘make’ something, and to share it. Which is another huge thing for me.

I’ve connected with so many amazing people. It’s allowed me to be social, be myself, without the pressure of physical situations. It’s allowed me to inspire people and in return be inspired myself. There has been so much good to come from my blogging. Maybe not in a worldly sense, but in my own mental and spiritual sense, which in turn helps me physically since so much of my life is connected to my emotional state.

I think of blogging the same way I think of art, or music. It is a form of self expression. It may not mean anything to anyone else, but it means something to me, and that’s why I do it. It’s just a nice side effect that so many amazing people appreciate my work along side me. : )

I totally relate to everything here 🙂 You’re one of those people who have inspired me and have shown me a different perspective when I’ve needed it.

I love the connections you can make with others online. Being open and vulnerable and sharing a side of yourself that most don’t get to see takes courage. But its also very cathartic.

I agree with what you mentioned about feeling overwhelmed when you haven’t written in a while. When I’m experiencing frustration, the best way to calm myself down is to write about it. It makes sense of my emotions and allows me to step back and analyze things. I can see areas where I may have overreacted, but I can also see where things aren’t my fault.

I’m so happy I started blogging and got to meet you 🙂
